Woman accused of embezzling funds

A former employee who allegedly stole nearly $5,000 in checks, cash and bank deposits from Allstate Insurance last October is to plead guilty Sept. 1 to attempted theft, a felony.

Sylvia Simmons, 36, was arrested at the end of July after the theft was discovered. According to reports, she admitted taking the money over several months.

Simmons waived her preliminary hearing in East Fork Justice Court on Wednesday and is to appear before District Judge Dave Gamble on Sept. 1.
