Baseball: Pack Drops Tuesday Contest 10-7 To Pacific

Reno, Nev. - The University of Nevada (18-20) baseball team dropped a 10-7 nonconference game to Pacific (16-19) at Peccole Park in Reno Tuesday night. The loss leaves the Wolf Pack 18-20 on the season while the Tigers improved to 16-19.

After two scoreless innings Pacific scored six times in the top of the third inning to take control 6-0. Second baseman J.B. Brown hit a two-run homer to score the first two runs of the inning. Four consecutive walks followed by an error and another single allowed the next four runs to score in the big inning.

The Pack scored the next seven runs to move in front 7-6. Right fielder Brett Hart hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to get Nevada on the scoreboard. Five runs in the fifth put the Pack on top 7-6. Catcher Michael Turay had the big hit with his first home run at Nevada that scored three and put the Pack on top 7-6.

The Tigers scored twice in the sixth on first baseman Brian Martin's single and added two more runs in the seventh to make the final score 10-7.

Jesse Rasner (0-1) the third of five Pack pitchers in the game suffered the loss giving up two runs on two hits in 1.1 innings on the mound. Larry Holscher (3-2) earned the win for Pacific despite allowing three runs on three hits and retired two hitters on the night. Cole Akins (2) earned his second save of the season pitching four scoreless innings.

First baseman Shaun Kort (2-for-5,R,RBI), third baseman Tyson Jaquez (2-for-4,2R), Turay (2-for-3,R,3RBI) and second baseman Joe Kohan (2-for-3) led the Pack with two hits apiece. Turay drove in a game-high three with his home run and Hart scored two with his second home run of the season and in as many games.

Designated hitter Joey Centanni (3-for-5,2R,RBI) had a game-high three hits for the Tigers. Left fielder Nick Longmire (2-for-5,R,RBI), right fielder Mike McKeever (2-for-3,R), Martin (2-for-4,R,2RBI) and shortstop Ben Gorang(2-for-5,R,RBI) added two hits each for Pacific as they totaled 15. Brown and Martin finished with two RBI apiece.

Nevada will host CSU Bakersfield this weekend in a three-game series. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:00 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday's games starting at 1:00 p.m.
