Will you print any letter?

EDITOR:

Come on Record-Courier. Will you publish any political letter to the editor as long as it's slanted against the Democratic party? I refer to your April 15 publication where you printed the letters titled: "What good is a bail-out" by J.D Patrick, "A belated April fools joke" by Dick Witzig, and, my favorite, "Democrats enslave minorities" by E.R. Chip. What a joke. E.R. Chip writes that "the Democrats after Lincoln and the Civil War created the Ku Klux Klan to control the blacks..." I wonder if E.R. knows that a political ad ran on the radio in Maryland exhulting this same lie. It also purported that Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican.

This ad was run by a national black Republican group in late 2006 during the senate race. These lies were, of course, repeated by right-wing talk radio hosts Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, et al.

In fact, the KKK was just made up of racist white men in the South after the end of the Civil War. They organized, in part, to protest against our new government. Martin Luther King? He also, was non-partisan. I won't even go into the rest of this persons letter, but, come on, do you really believe everything you hear and read? Consider the source, do your own research, find out the facts and then make an educated decision. With our new president in office, emotions are obviously very high on both sides of the political spectrum. But, for goodness sakes, do you really believe that President Obama has ulterior motives in mind besides just fixing our broken country? The poor man has been in office for three months. Let's see if his tactics work and stop the lies and pointing fingers, at least until his first term in office.
