The Carson Valley Basketball Association's first run at hosting an offseason tournament was a success on and off the floor.
Madness in the Mountains drew fourth- through eighth-grade teams from around the area for a two-day tournament over the weekend. Carson Valley's eighth-grade squad took second in its bracket, the seventh-grade Carson Valley Black squad took third and the remaining local teams were competitive in their pools.
"It went outstanding all the way around," association president Mike Downs said. "The coaches of the opposing teams were saying they enjoyed not having to go all the way to Sacramento to play competitive basketball.
"We had so many great volunteers. The parents did a great job helping us out, the kids from our older programs were running the clocks and keeping scorebooks. For the first tournament we've ever had, it really went well."
Because of the larger numbers in Carson Valley's seventh- and sixth-grade groups, the association was able to split up into multiple teams.
"We wanted to split the kids up to get as many of them on the floor and let them play as we could," Downs said. "That's what we're all about. Those groups had to find themselves and play with everyone. We wanted everyone out on the floor so they could get out there and get better and that's what we were able to do.
"For our first tournament, the feedback was very good. We just can't thank everyone enough."
