The R-C Morning Report

Douglas County commissioners are discussing dipping into $1.844 million in general fund reserves to pay for a baker's dozen worth of projects, including moving its community access television, appealing federal flood maps, expanding the constable's office, a contract for mosquito abatement, sheriff's vehicles among others. The commissioners are meeting at the Stateline Transportation Center, 1:30 p.m. today.

They'll also be proclaiming May 3-9 Nevada Wildfire Awareness Week in Douglas County and hearing a presentation on efforts to prevent wildfires in the Tahoe basin. Nevada Fire Safe Councils all over the county are doing their work to gather brush and clear open space in preparation for fire season.

The cause of a Topaz Ranch Estates home fire has been traced to the wiring, according to Capt. Terry Taylor of the East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts. Taylor said the point of origin for the fire is appears to be a junction box where one of the additions was wired in. The Monday fire on Granite Way destroyed the Hodge home and most of their possessions.
