Patrons of the Carson Valley Lions Club Great Garage Sale will notice a major change at the annual event set for May 2: No manure.

For the first time in 19 years, the Lions won't be selling fertilizer along with the furniture, appliances, clothing and other knick-knacks at the intersection of Highway 395 and Esmeralda.

The sale is 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Member Barry Jones said the Lions had been cutting down on manure sales the last few years and decided to discontinue the feature all together this year.

That leaves plenty of room for bargains such as sofas, clothing, tables, lamps, washers, dryers, cabinets, plants and other items.

Mattresses and box springs cannot be accepted.

Local residents who have large items in good condition to donate may arrange for free pickup on April 23 and April 30 by calling Jones at 782-7070. Donations also may be dropped off the morning of the sale.

Proceeds from the sale support local Lions Club projects such as scholarships for Douglas High School students, eye exams and glasses, Meals on Wheels, Student Speakers' Contest and sponsoring Carson Valley elementary students to Camp Buck and Dat-So-La-Lee.
