The sixth deep well tapping an inexhaustible supply of underground water in Carson Valley was brought in a few days ago by the Western Drilling Co. on the N.P. Morrison ranch, near Centerville. The well was drilled to a depth of 200 feet and has a flow of better than 1,200 gallons per minute, adequately sufficient to irrigate all cultivated lands owned by Mr. Morrison.

The well is located on the high ground of the Morrison ranch close to the dividing line of the Riemann place. Through this favorable location water can be carried to every part of the ranch.

Sheriff George Byers abandoned his new patrol car in favor of his horse for a short time last Friday and proved he is as proficient in a saddle as he is behind the steering wheel. A switch in equipment was necessary when the tailgate on a cattle truck broke open as the vehicle was passing the Inn Between in Gardnerville.

Three cows fell out and scattered in all directions. Sheriff Byers saddled up and with the assistance of Andy Aldax and the truck driver, rounded up the animals. They were reloaded and soon on their way again, little worse for the wear and tear.

The best use of the old high school in Gardnerville may still be that of education. At least that's what several members of the community hope. A committee made up of active citizens have met on the subject of what to do with the old brick building in front of the Carson Valley Middle School.

Committee members reported that what they're hearing from fellow citizens is, "Don't tear the beautiful old building down."

If plans proceed as hoped, the Douglas County High School may someday be the center for university level and other adult education in Douglas County.
