The last Douglas County Historical Society swap meet of the season is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, in the parking lot of the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Pet clinic Sunday

A low-cost vaccine clinic is 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, at Gina's Grooming, 791 Tillman Lane in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Microchipping available by Dr. Lesli Hewitt of Quail Ridge Animal Hospital. Genealogy meets at cemetery

The Carson Valley Genealogy Group meets 1 p.m. Thursday for a ghost walk lead by Laurie Hickey in the Genoa Cemetery. Information, 783-9626.


Scarecrow festival Oct. 4

The East Fork Gallery's Scarecrow Festival is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 4 in Minden Park. Cost is $10 per scarecrow making kit. Face painting and preassembled scarecrows for sale. The 24th annual event is a fundraiser for the gallery. Information, 782-7629.


Pumpkin patch, fall festival Oct. 4

The Douglas County 4-H Fall Festival & Pumpkin Patch is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 4 in Lampe Park. Pumpkin patch, costume contest, carnival booths, petting zoo, food and games. Information, 782-9960.


Student Day

Historic Carson Valley characters present their stories at Senior-Student Day, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville. Seniors, students and a required accompanying adult admitted free to the museum and presentation every first Saturday of the month. Candlelight vigil for violence awareness Oct. 6

As part of October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, the Purple Ribbon Coalition presents the 11th annual Candlelight Vigil, 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at Heritage Park in Gardnerville.

The event features the release of doves symbolizing freedom to victims of domestic violence. Guest speakers are District Attorney Mark Jackson and Sheriff Ron Pierini. Refreshments will be served. Information at the Family Support Council, 782-8692.
