Soroptimists open house Oct. 1

Soroptimist International of Carson Valley is hosting an open house 5:30 p.m. Oct. 1 for their club members and anyone interested in joining the club.

Soroptimist International is the world's largest classified service organization for executive and professional women whose mission is to provide service locally, nationally and around the world. There are more than 100,000 members from 123 countries who volunteer their time and efforts in order to promote and improve the quality of life for all people.

Fundraisers are held by Soroptimists International of Carson Valley throughout the year to raise funds for community projects. Past service projects include Abbey Crossing Women's Shelter, Family Support Council, Douglas County Senior Center, Meals On Wheels, student scholarships, student achievement awards and luncheons, Halloween Safety Street, A Fighting Chance, Project Santa Claus, Carson River Work Day, Day Of Unity and Carson-Tahoe Cancer Center.

If you or anyone you know is interested in joining Soroptimist International, the open house is a way to meet club members and learn more about the club, its mission, and the local service projects in which the club is involved. There will be an auction of items from the club members' travels in the past year. All proceeds from the auction benefit Soroptimist.
