Hot August Nights car shows made some "really cool" images in the latest Carson Valley Photo Club competition.

Pam Brekas' "Beautiful Lines," a study in blue of a classic car at the Silver City Car Show in Carson City, took first place. She snapped the photo with a Nikon Coolpix P80 digital camera. Club members acting as judges said the photo was "a compelling blend of symmetry and colors."

Ray Moore was second with "Red Rod," a shot of Laurie Hennessy's 1936 Plymouth coupe on display in Minden.

Third place went to Tamyra Crossley's image of a colorful flame-painted hot rod she titled "Chariots of Fire."

At the club's Sept. 25 meeting, Moore will discuss the basics of the photo enhancement computer program Photoshop. The session is 6:30 p.m. at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.

At its August meeting, club president Anne Bothwell noted six club members submitted photos in the Nevada State Fair and won 35 ribbons.
