August puts the cars in Carson Valley, kicking off with the return of the Hot August Nights Poker Run lunch stop in Minden on Thursday.
Sponsored by the Carson Valley Visitors Authority and the town, scores of classic cars will be parked around Minden Park 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as they draw their cards.
The Valley Cruisers Car Club will be there to help parking, and there are a lot of restaurants within easy walk of the park. McClain Mobile Music will be spinning classics.

The Main Street Event's 33rd annual car show returns Aug. 13 to Esmeralda Avenue in Minden. Sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts, the event kicks off at 4 p.m.
The Main Street Cars show debuted in 1988 run by the Valley Cruisers as a way to bring the community together. All vehicles of interest are welcome. Cost $25 to show a vehicle, spectators are free.
During the event the Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club will serve beer and tri-tip sandwiches. All proceeds benefit local charities.
Spectators can expect to admire all types of vehicles from old to new, race cars, sport utility vehicles and lifted trucks while enjoying music, food and beer and the opportunity to come together.

For a chaser after the Friday night event, the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park is hosting members of the Silver State Model T Ford Club 10 a.m. Aug. 14 with “The Car That Changed the World.”
While in Eagle, not Carson Valley, the annual Send a Scout to Camp car and truck show will benefit a bunch of Carson Valley Boy Scouts on Aug. 14.
Registration for fundraiser at Fuji Park is 8 a.m. and the show will wrap up at 3 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Troop and Pack 33 and Troop 20, by helping to fund participation in campouts, purchase camping gear and earn merit badges and rank advancement.
