Halloween carnival Sunday

Sunday, Oct. 26, 5-7 p.m., our local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority will hold their annual Halloween carnival at the Antelope Elementary School multipurpose room. There will be games, a costume parade with ribbons for the winners, and a cake walk. This is a great evening to spend with your children, celebrating this time of year that they dress up in fun costumes. For more information or inquiries about having a booth, call Joan Ansberry at (530) 495-2848.

High school sports

Boy, the Coleville High School's football and volleyball teams are really rolling this year. The football team totally drubbed Smith Valley last Saturday, by a score of 96-54. That is a score it is hard to even imagine, but it happened. It was really nice that it could happen in their last home game of the season, so all their local fans could witness it. Jason Peters had a record day with his passing, running, and defensive play. Emmi Sandoval also had an outstanding day. Congratulations!

The girls volleyball team handily defeated Smith Valley on the same day, bringing their league record to 10-1. Good work, girls!

Duck race results

The duck race wasn't actually a race this year, but was celebrated at the chamber of commerce's barbecue Oct. 12 at the Walker Community Park. This year, the ducks were in a wading pool, and one-year old Raily Page Flores of Lee Vining pulled the winners out of the water. First prize was won by John Wiley of Walker, with second prize being won by David Spangler of Coleville. In spite of the weather that weekend, those attending had a good time at the barbecue.

Wellness center

If you like crafting and arts, you should stop by the new wellness center on the highway in Walker and see what activities will be taking place that you might enjoy doing. They range from rug hooking to beading, to jewelry making or scrap booking and more.

Things are starting to wind down in preparation for winter, so be sure and let me know of any activities that will be happening, that our readers might want to take part in.
