Savor the Flavor is Saturday

Soroptimist International of Carson Valley celebrates food, friends, wine and microbrews at the 13th annual Savor the Flavor fundraiser, 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Genoa Lakes Golf Resort.

Featured are wines and microbrews from area wineries and distributors, restaurant samples and a silent auction. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20, for 100 $3 pulls on megabucks slot machine at Carson Valley Inn. Raffle prizes include a two-night stay at the Carson Valley Inn and dinner for two at Fiona's Bar and Grill.

"We are looking at enhancing the line-up of restaurants and wineries to make sure everyone enjoys the food and wine the restaurants and wineries have so generously donated to the event," said Bronwyn Mason, publicity chair for the event.

Participating restaurants include David Walley's, Genoa Lakes Golf Resort, Antoci's, Wasabi's Asian Bistro, Indigo, Two Guys From Italy, Sierra Nevada Trading Co., Bella Vita Catering, Killer Salsa, Café Girasole, Sweetie Pies and Starbucks. The Soroptimist Club will also be serving food from recipes from their published cookbook.

The wineries participating in the event include Tahoe Ridge, Ravenswood, Rodney Strong, Mumm's, Francis Coppola, Caymus and 40 more wineries provided by Southern Wine and Spirits. Capital Beverage will be providing microbrews from Boston Beer Co., Widmer Brothers Beer Co., Redhook Brewing Co. and Firestone Brewing Co.

All proceeds from Savor the Flavor benefit local community projects including student scholarships, youth programs, family assistance, environmental and health-related projects. More than $25,000 was raised at last year's Savor the Flavor event.

Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door and are available at Aloha Discount Liquors, Artisans International Gallery, Carson Valley Inn Gift Shop, Carson Valley Market, Carson Valley Mortgage, Historian Inn, Jen's Optical House, Neddenriep and Associates, the Minden branch of Nevada State Bank, Sierra Nevada Trading Co., Stewart Title, Tumblewind Antiques, Valley Golf Shop, World Gym, Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau and from any Soroptimist member.
