M. Jeanne Johnston

A memorial service is 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church for former Carson Valley resident M. Jeanne Johnston, 76, who died Dec. 19, 2008, at Evergreen Care Center.

She was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Poteet, Texas, to James and Carrie (Selby) Barrow, she married Walter E. Johnston on May 16, 1970, in Los Angeles.

She worked as a waitress for 22 years before moving to Nevada.

Mrs. Johnston was a member of the Women's Society at St. Gall Catholic Church, and a representative for Western Nevada College's Douglas Campus. She enjoyed bowling, golf and going to the pool.

She is preceded in death by her son Phil Proell; four brothers Jim, Edwin, John and Marvin; and six sisters Mary, Carol, Marva, Hazel, Norma Faye and Evelyn.

Mrs. Johnston is survived by husband, Walter of Carson City; sons Jim Proell of Vietnam, Steven Proell of Sonoma, Calif., and Ed Krieger of Marino Valley, Calif.; daughters Rae Jean Lash of Las Vegas, Karen Cowan of Sammamish, Wash., and Kathy Blazer of Costa Mesa, Calif.; sisters Bertha Millette of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Kathy Radford of Van Nuys, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will be at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.
