A memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday for 17-year Douglas County resident Richard Martin Foley, 45, at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville. Mr. Foley died Sept. 13, 2008, at his home in Wellington.

Born July 19, 1963, in Fremont, Calif., to Claude Wayne and Margaret Irma Foley, he was a resident of Gardnerville for 12 years before moving to Wellington five years ago.

He married Peggy Sue Johnston Nov. 3, 1990, in South Lake Tahoe. A Realtor and a member of the National Association of Realtors, Mr. Foley enjoyed camping and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; parents Claude and Maggie; step-sons Zachary and Alexandra Cassner of Gardnerville; daughters Megan and Madison of Wellington and Ashley of Bakersfield, Calif.; brother Alan Foley; brothers and sisters-in-law Mike and Colleen Foley of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; Marc and Debbie Foley of Newbury Park, Calif.; sister and brother-in law Kimberley and John Jelle of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

FitzHenry's is the mortuary in charge of arrangements.

A celebration of life for Korean War veteran and lifetime Gardnerville resident Kenneth Hellwinkel, 80, is 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Born Feb. 4, 1928, to William and Alvina Hellwinkel, he graduated from Douglas County High School. He served during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He married Victoria Urionaguena on March 21, 1954.

Mr. Hellwinkel is preceded in death by his parents, sister Harriet and wife Victoria.

He is survived by his son Ken of Teton, Idaho; stepdaughter Frances and husband Jesus Pedroarena of Minden and grandchildren Kendra and Kale of Bozeman, Mont.

A memorial service was Monday at Crossroads Church for Trini Liggett, who died on July 20, 2008, surrounded by family and friends following a two-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Born May 13, 1941, in Ventura, Calif., Mrs. Liggett spent most of her life in Ventura, recently returning to the area from Gardnerville, following the death of her husband, John Liggett.

Mrs. Liggett retired from Alpha Beta and Ralph's supermarkets after 23 years. She was known for her fun-loving and gentle spirit. She had a zest for life and enjoyed spending time with numerous friends and family. Mrs. Liggett was an expert and creative cook and enjoyed entertaining and caring for her home and family and had a special bond with her grandchildren. The couple enjoyed the Vintage Car Club's gatherings and travels. She had several long term friends with whom she enjoyed their company and travels.

Mrs. Liggett is survived by children, Nelson Varela and wife Lissa, Michael (Herky) Wade, and Lesley Wade Stephens; six grandchildren, Brandon Varela, Kalib Varela, Nathan Varela, Isabel Varela, Cole Stephens, and Emily Stephens; brothers and sisters, Esther Bustos, Lou Morales (Carolyn), Pete Robledo, Carlos Robledo, Gloria Macias, Abel Padilla and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Liggett was preceded in death by her husband John; mother Isabel Levario Razo; brother Ruben Morales; sisters Ruth Perez and Rose Razo.

The family offers thanks to Mrs. Liggett's niece Bertha Olivarez and friends, Margaret Piscotti, Chris Brooks, Doug and Rosalie Higgs, Don and Pam Adams, Ellen Ward, and her care provider, Juanita Hernandez. In addition, thanks to Assisted Home Hospice and the sixth-floor staff at Community Memorial Hospital for their love, care, and support during Mrs. Liggett's illness, Mrs. Liggett's brother and sister-in-law, Lou and Carolyn, and to Mrs. Liggett's sister Gloria. They brought Mrs. Liggett into their home to love, care, and nurture until her passing.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Joseph Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers in her memory to Crossroads Church.

A funeral mass is 1:30 p.m. Friday in Santa Rosa, Calif., for seven-year Gardnerville resident Marion McGoldrick, who died Sept. 12, 2008 at her home.

Born Marion Savage on Feb. 6, 1915, in Superior, Wis., she was raised in Kelly Lake, Minn., with four brothers and sisters.

After graduating from college, she moved to San Francisco and began a career in drapery-making at W.J. Sloane. Later she became drapery manager for the Emporium in Palo Alto, Calif. In 1935, she met and married Jack McGoldrick. The couple raised two sons, Tom and Jim.

After retirement, the couple traveled the U.S. with their trailer. He enjoyed fishing while Mrs. McGoldrick crocheted and created many craft items. After seven years, they settled in Forestville, Calif.

After her husband's death, Mrs. McGoldrick began a memorial garden, which over time became a beautiful, peaceful place full of ferns, redwood trees, a pond with a waterfall, and many varieties of flowers and bushes.

In 2001, Mrs. McGoldrick moved to Gardnerville, and even with limited space, planted a small garden that was admired by her neighbors.

Mrs. McGoldrick is survived by her sons, Tom (Joy) of Genoa and Jim (Barbara) of Forestville; five grandchildren, Wendy Yankoskie (Jay) of Minden, Christine Forvely (Scott) of Gardnerville, Janet McGoldrick of Santa Rosa, James McGoldrick II (Kirsten) of Gardnerville and Paul McGoldrick of Santa Rosa; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Saturday's service is at St. Rose Catholic Church, 398 10th St., Santa Rosa, with interment to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave., Santa Rosa. Donations may be made in her memory to Catholic Charities, P.O. Box 4900, Santa Rosa, CA 95402. Arrangements made in conjunction with FitzHenry's in Gardnerville.
