The R-C Morning Report: Schultz fire relief

The American Red Cross is coordinating the donation efforts for the Schultz family, who was burned out of their home after their daughter's birthday party on Sunday evening. To help, call 856-1000 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and let them know what you've got. The Red Cross will contact the family and let them determine what they need. We'll post any other relief efforts as we learn about them during the day.

It's already breezy out and the wind advisory hasn't even arrived yet. The National Weather Service is predicting strong gusty winds of 20 to 35 mph starting 10 a.m., with gusts of up to 55 mph. The foothills and Washoe Valley could see wind gusts of up to 70 mph through 9 p.m. tonight. Expect the winds to kick up dirt in those areas where it's particularly dusty, and since it hasn't rained worth a darn the entire month, where isn't it?

A Gardnerville woman who swore on her father's ashes she would never steal to support her gambling habit is in Douglas County District Court this morning for a probation violation. Julie Beauregard faces up to four years in prison for grand larceny should Judge Dave Gamble decide the violation warrants vacating her probation. She admitted stealing more than $33,000 from her mother.
