National Solar Tour coming to Carson Valley

The National Solar Tour showcases solar technology across the country and on Oct. 6 will be highlighting solar-powered residential and commercial buildings here in northern Nevada.

The event begins at 9 a.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden, offering information and discussion about solar and other renewable energy sources and energy efficiency. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., participants will have the opportunity to tour six different sites in Minden, Gardnerville and Carson City, including old and new solar-powered homes, and also Bently Biofuels' solar-heated biodiesel plant off Buckeye Road. Maps of the sites will be handed out at the CVIC Hall meeting.

Philip Moore, coordinator of the tour, said the event will allow local residents to find out how their neighbors are trimming energy bills and increasing energy security. It will raise awareness of the great potential of solar energy.

To register for the tour, call Moore at (775) 224-1877, or e-mail Philip_Moore@charter.net. The tour of Bently Biofuels will have a limited number of participants, so register now. For more information about the event, visit www.SunriseNevada.org.
