The R-C Morning Report: Windy day

It's going to be a blustery day, so expect all the weirdness that the wind blows in. It's already cooking at 15 mph in the middle of the Valley and the high wind warning doesn't take effect until 10 a.m. Expect winds of 15-25 mph with gusts of up to 50 mph this morning with an increase to 25 to 35 mph and gusts of up to 60 mph this afternoon. Wind prone areas, such as the Highway 395-88 corridor and anywhere along the foothills should expect gusts of up to 70 mph. In other words, if you're attached to it, tie it down. Expect some power bumps today, if not outright outages. Save often.

Douglas County commissioners accepted a $500,000 grant to combat domestic violence, although there was the usual discussion over what would happen in two years when the grant expires. Guess that will be the time to decide whether the program has been successful and is worth paying up.

Once this front passes, the National Weather Service is betting there will be a good chance of rain, 70 percent tonight. The high temperature today will be 67 degrees, and it's already 56 this morning. We'll probably see a temperature about the same time the rains roll in, around the commute time this evening.
