New candy and coffee store in Genoa

Montana couple Janet and Shawn St. Peter moved to Carson Valley three years ago with dreams of opening a nostalgic candy and coffee shop.

They succeeded in August when they opened the Genoa Candy & Coffee Co.

"I took some coffee roasting classes in Idaho, and Janet's been making her grandmother's fudge for years, a family recipe," said Shawn St. Peter.

The store offers fresh-roasted organic coffee, muffins and cupcakes and over 200 different kinds of candy, including homemade fudge, truffles and sugar-free confections.

The store also offers 11 flavors of Tahoe Creamery ice cream.

"Two of the ice cream flavors are made especially for us," said Shawn St. Peter. "Licorice chip and mochaloha."

Genoa Candy and Coffee is located at 2292 Main Street in Genoa.

Business hours are Tuesdays through Fridays, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday mornings, the store offers homemade crepes and coffee from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information, call 782-8500.
