John Dykes was driving through Grand Teton National Park in northwestern Wyoming when he spotted several people with cameras parked along the Snake River. He took several photos himself and decided to return early the next day to record the scene in the morning light.
His return was worth the wait. One photo, which he titled "Teton Fall," captured the majestic Teton mountains and vibrant fall colors of hundreds of birch trees reflected in the river. His picture took first place in the monthly photo contest held by the Carson Valley Photo Club.
Second place went to Kathy Port of Gardnerville whose entry was a close-up photo of red and golden fall leaves.
Pat Colon's photo of a cabin at Sorensen's Resort won the third-place ribbon. The old structure is surrounded by trees in fall colors.
The winning photos are on display at the Douglas County Public Library in Minden, where the club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. Information about the club, go to cvphotoclub.com or call 783-8600.
