Valley photo club announces winners

A photo of grandson Jake Whisnant of South Lake Tahoe, seated on a rock with Jobs Peak in the background, won first-place honors from the Carson Valley Photo Club for Ray Moore of Gardnerville.

The color photo of the 2 1/2-year-old boy was taken with a digital camera.

Club members submit photos in competition when the newly-formed organization meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Douglas County Public Library in Minden, where winning pictures will be displayed.

Second place honors for April went to Doug Dill of Gardnerville, who photographed a mother and her young son strolling through a field of blossoms at Daffodil Hill near Volcano, Calif.

John Dykes of Dayton returned from a vacation in Australia, where he took his third-place winning photo of an old, bearded and tattooed man on a bench reading a book at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney. He titled his shot, "No Worries, Mate."

Also at the April 10 meeting founding president Dave Colon and vice president Pat Stanley were elected to one-year terms.
