Window breakersendangered lives

We don't know if David Scott Killen is responsible for a rash of window breakings stretching from Stateline to Carson City.

He is in custody and facing charges related to incidents that occurred in the Gardnerville Ranchos where a driver's side window was blown out.

Whether he drove all the way down Highway 50 and then around Carson City breaking windows with a pellet gun or slingshot before that incident has yet to be proved.

This isn't about Killen. It's about whoever thought it would be fun to break the windows of vehicles traveling on Highway 50 at Stateline.

We're pretty sure that having a window suddenly shatter while traveling down the road is a traumatic experience that might cause a driver to lose control of their vehicle.

But having all that happen while traveling the winding road at Lake Tahoe ups the stakes considerably.

Had someone, in their surprise, swerved into oncoming traffic or over the edge of a cliff, they could have easily been killed, or easily have killed others.

Even if the vehicles attacked were stopped at the time, the impact of being under fire could have serious consequences down the road.

We don't believe that misdemeanors are enough to cover the potential consequences of those actions.

We believe that whoever is responsible for these actions, whether it is Killen or someone else, should be held fully accountable to send a message to others that shooting at people will bring down the law, regardless of the weapon.
