Sierra Crest Academy celebrates Earth Day

Sierra Crest Academy, a project-based charter school, is sponsoring Earth Day activities Saturday and Sunday at 1701 Lucerne St. in Minden. Hours are 5-8 p.m. Saturday and 2-6 p.m. Sunday.

There will be food, fun and activities for all ages. Also to be offered will be traditionally prepared dishes with some organic selections and desserts for sale, all with recipe cards for future use. There will also be potted plants for sale at the event.

Proceeds from the sale will go directly to Sierra Crest Academy's academic projects such as their upcoming goal to become Jupiter in the world's largest scale model of the solar system. There will be a showing of "An Inconvenient Truth," followed by a discussion entitled "Inconvenient Truth or Inconvenient Lie."

Age-appropriate movies will also be shown for the younger visitors with baby-sitting available.

Participants will also be able to preview the newest Fast ForWord Literacy program. The program activates the brain and retrains the brain for learning. It is of benefit for all ages, from preschool through elderly.
