Earth Day in Carson Valley

This weekend, Earth Day will be celebrated in both Douglas and Alpine counties.

- Sierra Crest Academy, a project-based charter school, is sponsoring Earth Day activities 5-8 p.m. Saturday and 2-6 p.m. Sunday at 1701 Lucerne St. in Minden. Food and activities appropriate for all ages will be offered. Traditionally prepared dishes, including organic foods and desserts will be for sale, as well as potted plants. There will be a showing of "An Inconvenient Truth," with a discussion, "Inconvenient Truth or Inconvenient Lie," following. Age-appropriate movies will be shown for younger visitors, and baby-sitting is available. Proceeds benefit academy projects. For information call 783-9002.

- The Washoe Tribe is hosting a fair with a fun run, community beautification project, booths and a barbecue 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Indian Educational Center, 96 Washoe Blvd., Markleeville. Information, Topher Marlatt, 265-8683.
