Pasture golf tourney draws largest crowd ever

The seventh annual Lions Club Pasture Golf Tournament was a great success. There were so many people there, both golfing and just enjoying the barbecue lunch and visiting with each other. I spoke with club members, and they say it was their biggest crowd ever. There were at least 150 people served at the lunch, including more than 90 golfers who played the course, which is great news for the Jackie Giorgi Scholarship Fund at Coleville High School.

No more burning

Due to the early occurrence of high fire danger after our dry winter, burning by residents is now not allowed in the Antelope Valley or Bridgeport. This change was effective last Saturday and notices were posted at various locations around the Valley. This is also the time to remind everyone about the necessity to create defensible space around their homes and outbuildings. The result is well worth the effort, and it is the law in California.

Easter egg hunt

Wow, there were a lot of kids at the Easter egg hunt. I know they all had a good time for sure, but the most fun to watch were those kindergarten age and younger. Boy, were they intent on getting the eggs. In each of the four age groups' hunts, there was a gold egg to be found, which gave the finder a large Easter basket of goodies. What fun for them and us. Thanks to the Lions Club yet again.

Wireless patience

For those of you waiting for your wireless Internet connection, please be patient. The problem in keeping up is caused by two issues: They couldn't have anticipated the fantastic response they have had; also, they weren't back-stocked with the type of radio receiver that adapts best to the needs of our area. It is coming, though; you will love the service when you get it, and it is truly worth the wait.

Library update

The Friends of the Library will hold their first book sale of the year April 28 at the Parent Teacher Organization pancake breakfast and bazaar. They are still seeking and will appreciate book donations. These can be made at the Coleville Library, or you can contact Margo Petterson at (530) 495-2904.

The Coleville Library has a new program for the parents and children of our area. Wednesdays at 5 p.m., they have a story hour, reading to small children. They are already building a fan base, so it would be worth checking out for mothers of tots. You can check with them at (530) 495-2788 during their regular hours.
