Easter a great day in Antelope Valley

The weather was beautiful, and I hope everyone enjoyed their day. There were some activities going on in our Valley that I hope you were able to participate in. The United Methodist Church, the Walker Baptist Church, and River Ministries combined to hold an Easter sunrise service at Coleville High School's athletic field, with a continental breakfast afterward.

The Antelope Valley Lions Club held their annual Easter egg hunt at the Walker Community Park. The hunt is divided into groups by their grades in school, so it is a lot of fun to watch the different groups go for the golden egg prize. The finder of the golden egg in each group received a beautiful Easter basket and a gift certificate at Walker Burger. The kids had a ball and took home lots of the eggs the Lions had prepared.

Bobcat alert

There have been a lot of sightings of bobcats lately. One of our neighbors lost 15 adult chickens to a 30-pound female cat. It didn't eat them, it just killed them. We had one lurking outside our house the other day, and I have heard from several people that they are coming close to their homes. If you have small animals, please be aware of the danger to them, and be careful for their sakes.

Cow Pasture Golf Tournament

This fun event will take place at Baldo Giorgi's ranch on Topaz Lane on April 5. The cost is only $25 for golf and lunch, in addition to it being a great way to visit with some fun people. Call Dave at (530) 495-2822 or Clint at (530) 495-2935 to register yourself, as well as a foursome, if you have one.

Speaker's contest

The Lions Club contest has continued with our area winner, Reno Probert, continuing his winning ways. He will next face the winners of about five other districts in Glendale on April 26 to try to move on to the even tougher competition. The Lions members who attended last Saturday's event said that Reno is getting even better at each level, which is amazing, since he started out so strong and impressive.

This and that

-- Remember that the $2 bag sale at the Walker Thrift Store continues until this Saturday, March 29. It is a wonderful chance to get clothes for next to nothing.

-- The Regional Planning Advisory Committee will have their monthly meeting 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the Walker Community Center. There are many things of interest to our residents that will be discussed, so try to attend.
