New animal hospital opens

Quail Ridge Animal Hospital is the first of its kind in Indian Hills, according to veterinarian Lesli A. Hewitt.

Hewitt said she considers her own pets to be part of the family. Besides son Hunter, Hewitt's family includes three dogs, a cat, four birds, a rodent and fish.

"A pet is an important part of the family and we want pets to have the very best care that veterinary medicine can provide," said Hewitt.

"That's why all of us at Quail Ridge are so excited about opening our doors on Mica Drive in Indian Hills. Our new hospital helps ensure that Carson City, Douglas County and Lake Tahoe pets have access to exceptional care with a convenient location," she said.

Hewitt has 20 years experience working with animals and treats exotic pets, birds and small pets as well as dogs and cats.

The new animal hospital offers affordable spay and neutering, puppy and kitten care packages, geriatric care, internal medicine and surgery, prescription and maintenance diets and wellness care.

Clinics are held the first Saturday of the month at Petco, 911 Topsy Lane in the Carson Valley Plaza.

The Quail Ridge staff will be available for vaccinations, microchipping, heartworm screening and feline leukemia testing.

If Hewitt discovers something wrong with a pet during any of these procedures, she lets the owner know to get it treated.

"We do a quick exam during the Petco clinics," said Hewitt. "Sometimes the pet might have dental problems, a tumor or something that needs attention."

She lets the owners know if the pet should go to a vet.

"Our goal is to make each visit at Quail Ridge Animal Hospital a happy, positive experience for pets and their owners," said Hewitt. "We are sensitive to our patients' stress levels and always take the time to educate owners about their pet's condition and recommended course of treatment."

Quail Ridge Animal Hospital is at 937 Mica Drive, Unit 18, in the Indian Hills shopping center. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except Tuesday when they are open until 7 p.m.
