Children's theater gets ready to 'Rock Around the Block'

Twenty young actors, ages 7-16 years, have been rehearsing for a production of the musical "Rock Around the Block," a show set in the 1950s with characters and music similar to "Grease."

This is the second musical production presented by the Douglas County Children's Theater, which organized last year. The children's theater presented its first play, "Aladdin," in September.

Performances of "Rock Around the Block" will be 7 p.m. March 24, 25, 31 and April 1 at the Dance Workshop Performing Arts Center, 1697 County Road, Minden. Tickets are $12, $10 for students. They are available through cast members, at the Dance Workshop and at the door.

"Rock Around the Block" is under the direction of Caitlyn Papp. The choreography is by Katie Riley and the assistant director and stage manager is Rachel Chipp.

The Douglas County Children's Theater offers children of Douglas County a chance to learn the business of musical theater from the inside out. The group, a collaboration between Douglas County Parks & Recreation and the Dance Workshop, has a staff of qualified professionals to guide the young actors. For more information, call 782-8717.
