Exit 22 entertains at Sharkey's

Exit 22 will be playing at Sharkey's tonight and Saturday night from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. There will be music for everyone from oldies rock to traditional country. On June 18 they will be performing for the Concert on the Green starting at 5 p.m. in the Genoa Town Park.

Two of the band members, Phil and Bonnie Matthies came to Nevada six years ago. They found a home in Lockwood, having come from northern Wisconsin where they had a four piece band for 19 years. Bonnie plays rhythm guitar and is lead singer for the group. She has a distinguished sound that is reminiscent of great singers like Patsy Cline. Phil Matthies provides the bass. He started playing music in a polka band as a tuba player but later made the transition to country music and playing bass guitar.

Other group members include Chuck Wayne, lead guitarist and proprietor of Wayne's Family Music in Gardnerville. He has performed at many venues like the Queen Mary, Virginia City and opened for many headliners such as the Oakridge Boys. Drummer Gary Osif lives in Six Mile Canyon on the east side of the Virginia Range. Joining the group in 2004, he holds the group together with a solid beat, said band members.

The group derived it's name from the I-80 exit sign leading to the community of Lockwood. For more information about Exit 22 or booking the group call Wayne's music 782-7739 or Phil Matthies at 342-0511.
