R-C Morning Report

Douglas County commissioners meet this evening in Minden to discuss and perhaps debate the $24.7 million redevelopment deal for 4.8 acres near the Douglas County line. The meeting is at 5 p.m. at the old Minden courthouse, 1616 8th St. The deal has drawn criticism from some quarters for being too much money for too little improvement. Developers would have to build 30,000 square feet of retail space before they got a nickel. In order to build, water, sewer and roads would have to be extended or improved to the property.

Gardnerville Elementary School students are putting on their annual Christmas concert 2-3 p.m. today at the elementary school, 1290 Toler in Gardnerville. For information, call 782-5117.

The Meneley Elementary School band and choir will perform at 6:15 p.m. tonight at the school.

The winds will be gusting between 20 and 30 mph today as a new storm rolls in. The National Weather Service is calling for a high of 42 degrees and a chance of precipitation hitting 40 percent during the day. Right now, there's a big ol' blot of light blue beginning to crest the Sierra. Tonight, the forecasters are calling for rain and then snow with a chance of measurable precipitation hitting 90 percent. They usually don't make it that high, unless it's already raining. Snow accumulations could hit 2 inches in places on the Valley floors. The next storm after this also brings a chance of rain on Christmas Day.
