Briefs. C.W. Friend's barometer is still on the downward path. The oldest inhabitant does not recollect so disagreeable a month of May as we are having this year. Little Bertie Thaxter is all out of danger and her complete recovery is now an assured thing. Warden Bell believes that 90 percent of the inmates of our State Prison have become criminals through drink.

100 YEARS AGO

The improvements at the Ormsby are beginning to show. Mr. Allen, the new proprietor, has moved his dining room to the front portion of the hotel in the room formerly occupied by the drug store. The improvements are a good ones and carry quite a city air. He will wire the house from top to bottom.

70 YEARS AGO

Kate Atherton, manager of the local Western Union for more than 30 years, born in Carson on Oct. 31, 1897, dies of a heart attack in Los Angeles, walking with her sister. She gave many young men their first start as operators of telegraphy, giving them a good start.

50 YEARS AGO

Queen of the Carson High junior-senior prom was Gloria Quilici with her crown from Bob List.

20 YEARS AGO

Former Mayor Eugene Scrivner is acting president of the Stewart-Carson Community Association, according to spokesman Ed Lobo. He is to act to review the proposed honor camp study and future use of the Stewart Indian School.

10 YEARS AGO

Streamflow from Ash Canyon Creek near Carson in March established a new monthly high for the period of record at four cubic feet per second, from Carson City Water Summary. Residents used almost 200 million gallons for the month.
