120 YEARS AGO

Letter to San Francisco from Tallac House, July 2. Dear Nettie, Well, we are here at last, and such a perfect jam I never saw in my life. Yesterday about 50 people were turned away. Mr. Baldwin has been obliged to sleep in a wood shed in order to make room for his guests. The only room now left is in the top of a barn in the hay mow.

If the good people of this city desire to remain in contact with their coin, they had better close their purses when the gang of gypsies visiting here make their appearance.

70 YEARS AGO

Pat McAuliffe, three times elected to the state assembly from his county, Esmeralda, dies at his home in Goldfield. He was well known statewide as a mining man and a staunch defender of the laboring man in the legislature. He was affiliated with the democratic party.

50 YEARS AGO

Betty Ihfe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ihfe of Carson City, has been elected and installed as grand worthy advisor of the Order of Rainbow Girls in Nevada. She is now finishing her higher education at the University of Nevada.

20 YEARS AGO

Local steering committee on the use of Stewart Indian School approved the state's plans for the school, following a presentation by General Services Director Terry Sullivan. He cited various federal grants for improvement.

10 YEARS AGO

Five local businesses have been nominated for the Outstanding Business Firm of the Year in the annual Chamber Community Awards; American General Development, Video Madness/JJ's Ear Candy, Freeman & Williams, Anderson Construction and Walmart.
