A memorial service for James Michael Dorrance, 65, a Gardnerville resident for the past eight years, will be at 2 p.m. May 6 at FitzHenry's Funeral Home in Gardnerville.
Mr. Dorrance died April 18, 2000, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital of complications from Syringomyelia and quadriplegia. He was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Bakersfield, Calif., to James Ruey and Syble Imogene Boring Dorrance.
He married Patricia K. Stanley April 14, 1967, in Los Angeles.
Mr. Dorrance attended Pomona College and graduated from California State College in 1964. He became an English teacher at Gardena High School where he met his wife.
Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Fremont, Calif.
Mr. Dorrance was a consultant with the IRS, retiring in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-59.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John in 1990.
Among his survivors are his wife Patricia K. of Gardnerville; sons Ethan Samuel and wife Betsy of Gardnerville and Timothy K. of Berkeley, Calif.; sister Linda and husband Dr. Henry Bennett of Davis, Calif., and three grandchildren.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory. A private scattering of ashes will be held above Job's Peak.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home, Gardnerville, is in charge of arrangements.
