Mounted Posse to hold annual dinner and dance on Saturday

The Douglas County Sheriff's Mounted Posse will hold its third annual dinner and dance, called "Round-up 2000," at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Saturday. The event will include a horsemen's flea market, an auction and a contest for the most elegant western attire. Tickets are available at either 782-4931 or 782-9937.

"It's a real social group," said Ed Abrams of the Douglas County Sheriff's office and coordinator for the event. " We do a lot of social things. It's all ages, from kids to granddads. The dance is our big moneymaker for the scholarship we offer."

People will be able to check out horses for sale as well as tack and trailers at the flea market, starting at noon. The barbecue dinner is at 6 p.m., and a trophy will be awarded for the most elegant evening western wear. A nickel slot machine from Topaz Lake Lodge will be one of the items auctioned off. Door prizes and raffle tickets will keep the goods flowing, and the Comstock Cowboys will provide dance tunes at 7 p.m.

The Mounted Posse is the training arm for the horses used by the sheriff's office for crowd control and parades. The Posse also aims at getting children and young adults involved with horses.
