Carson Senators cruise past Sparks Falcons in Pop Warner football action

The Carson Senators cruised by the Sparks Falcons, 32-6 in junior midget action on a soggy field at Don Mello Sports Complex Friday night in Sparks, improving their record to 3-4 for the season.

Coach Leonard Lee appeared frustrated early on as the

Senators' first two scores were called back on penalties. The Senators

finally settled down later on its first possession to score first on a 28

yard sweep by the Senators' leading rusher Jack Jacquet.

The Senators never looked back, scoring in all four quarters while holding the Falcons to one score late in the second quarter. The Senators made it look easy, spreading the ball around to five different rushers for scores.

The Senators rushed for 259 yards and five TDs behind starting

offensive lineman Marc Gonzalez, Jamie Greene, Brandon Mackie, Eddie

Martinez and Jason Sebring.

Jack Jacquet lead the rushers with 135 yards and one TD on 16 carries. Both Shawn Staggs and Jonas Schnezel had their best games this season with more than 50 yards rushing and a TD each. Kevin Holmes and quarterback Nick Bacon each scored once in the third quarter on short yardage situations to round out the scoring. Daniel Schierholt added seven yards on one carry. With the game in hand, Coach Lee gave well deserving lineman William Adler, Kyle Watkins, Eddie Martinez, Heath Medeiras, William Donnelly and Ahron Osheroff a chance to carry the ball for the Senators.

The Senators passing game relied almost exclusively on the halfback pass this week against the Falcons with Jacquet completing three passes for 71 yards.

Travis Trethan lead the receivers with two catches for 45 yards followed by

Kevin Holmes with one catch for 26 yards.

Late season changes in personnel continued to reap rewards for the Senators as the defense improved over last week's effort allowing only six Falcon points. The defense came up with three turnovers on two interceptions and one fumble recovery and rejected the Falcons only extra point attempt.

Stepping in as starting cornerback, Alvin Smith came up with two

interceptions in the second half to help stop the Falcons offense. Safety Ahron Osheroff recovered a third quarter fumble for the Senators to add to the Falcons woes. Defensive team leader Jeremiah Schnezel once again lead the charge on defense with six tackles and a forced fumble. Stepping up this week was Jeremy Gray with three tackles and a late fourth quarter sack to end the game.

Assisting on defense was Mitch Grover, William Donnelly, Robert Frederick,

Chris Ames and Logan Parsley.

Leading by only seven points at the beginning of the second half, the Senators lined up for a well practiced pooch kick. Jacquet kicked a low liner over the first line of the return team and off a Falcon return man. Schnezel rushed in to recover for the Senators, who then went on to score.
