Carson Pop Warner roundup

The Carson Senators secured their first win of the season against the Reno

Broncos, 13-6, on Friday night at Governors Field.

The Senators struck quickly with Jack Jacquet's 63-yard touchdown run on their first possession. They also survived a mishap on the PAT snap and picked up the extra point when Jacquet picked up the loose ball and completed a pass to Travis Treatham.

Jacquet scored again on a run in the second quarter and the Senators went on to end their three-game losing streak.

The Broncos scored on a long pass play in the second quarter, but the Senators adjusted their defensive scheme. Jeremiah Schenzel produced a key quarterback sack to thwart a Broncos' threat shortly before halftime. Carson also had an interception in the third quarter and another interception to end the game.

The Senators rushed for 225 yards and two TDs. Jack Jacquet, replacing the injured Kevin Holmes, rushed for 177 yards on 14 carries and scored both of Carson's touchdowns. The running game was rounded out by Shawn Staggs with 33 yards on 10 carries, with the remainder from Jonas Schnezel, Tyler Jackson, Daniel Schierholt and quarterback Nick Bacon.

Credit for the Senators' successful running game goes to the starting offensive linemen: William Adler, Marc Gonzalez, Brandon Mackie, Eddie Martinez and Jamie Greene.

Bacon directed Carson's offense and completed four of five passes for 29 yards. The Senators used the halfback pass play successfully as Jacquet threw four times for 15 yards.

Trethan led the receivers with three catches for 31 yards while Jacquet caught two balls for 13 yards.

The Senators were led defensively by Jeremiah Schenzel who had four tackles, one interception and the second-period quarterback sack. Schenzel was assisted up front by Robert Frederick, Donovan Dean, Mitchell Grover, Jeremy Gray and William Donnelly, who came alive late with two quarterback sacks. Bryon Wilson stepped up in the defensive backfield with a game ending interception. Ahron Osheroff contributed three tackles and Alvin Smith had two.
