Genoa, Nev. — A third structure is reported lost in the Conner Fire, which is at 51 percent containment as of midnight Monday. The fire acreage is holding steady at 17,714 with 387 firefighters working toward a July 4 containment date.

The eighth victim in the Lake Tahoe boat capsizing was located by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office on Monday afternoon. According to its social media, the identities of the deceased will be released upon notification of next of kin.

Planning commissioners are scheduled to meet 1 p.m. today to discuss the transfer of development rights program. Among the proposed changes to the system designed to preserve Carson Valley agricultural land are increased transparency. Planning commissioners meet at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden.

Library trustees will discuss approving purchase orders not to exceed $162,212 for the 2025-26 fiscal year starting July 1. Library Director Tim DeGhelder’s goals and expectations are also up 10 a.m. today at the Minden Branch, 1625 Library Lane.

Woe betide any Genoa business seeking to use a sans serif font in their signage. Casey and Haley Sebahar are appealing the rejection of the font for their Foothill Market to Genoa Historic District commissioners 4:30 p.m. today in the Town meeting room.

As someone who designed award-winning news pages for a quarter-century before my crayons were taken away, I’ve had a few heated discussions over fonts in my time. We’ll see how the Sebahars fare in this one.

I got word there was a little bit of precipitation on Monday as thunderstorms moved in. It missed most of the Weather Service gauges, but Woodfords recorded .08 inches.

East Fork Justice of the Peace Laurie Trotter is hosting the Nevada Judges of Limited Jurisdiction at the Carson Valley Inn today through Friday. The group consists of municipal and justices of the peace from across Nevada.

I got word on Monday that former Douglas County School Human Resources Officer and Search and Rescue Team volunteer Rich Alexander died in mid-May. The family is asking donations be made to Search and Rescue or Nevada State Parks.

We might see a little more of thunderstorm action today as clouds develop over the Sierra 2-7 p.m. Firefighters are concerned outflow winds might affect their efforts on the Conner Fire. Otherwise, the forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 83, with a west wind of 5-10 mph this afternoon.
