Genoa, Nev. — Douglas High School graduation is 5:30 p.m. today at the high school. It’s going to be busy and a bit blustery in Minden both before and after, so be aware.

The Carson Valley Days carnival and vendors are open 4-10 p.m. today, marking the official beginning of the four-day celebration. Tickets are buy one get a second half off. You can’t use the discount tickets until Friday.

As of this morning, nationalponyexpress.org shows the Pony Express Re-Rider is still west of Kyburz climbing Highway 50 and running way more than an hour behind. My goal was to catch them at Woodfords, but that will depend on how the rest of the morning goes, both for me and the rider.

Vacation Home Rental advisors spent more than two hours talking about potential revisions to the code in Douglas County. There’s a lot to unpack there but suffice to say they are meeting and working away.

Public Utility Commissioners conducted a public session on NV Energy’s proposed cost recovery for a $500 million wildfire self-insurance policy on Wednesday.

A fire weather watch takes effect 11 a.m. Friday the 13th and will last through 11 p.m. Saturday. A combination of low humidity and gusty winds could contribute to increased wildfire spread.

The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high near 86 degrees with the west wind picking up to 10-15 mph, gusting to 30 mph, so grads better hang onto their mortarboards this evening.
