Genoa, Nev. — It appears from NVenergy.com that power has been restored in the second outage in Douglas County in two days. Lights were out to more than 15,000 of the company’s customers in Carson Valley at 5:30 a.m. but was restored to all but a handful by 7:20 a.m.
That outage comes on the heels of another that affected up to 3,531 NV Energy customers for around an hour on Sunday morning. No cause has been announced and there wasn’t anything obvious like a car hitting a pole or a windstorm.
An angler collapsed and died on the shore of Topaz Lake on Saturday afternoon. Sheriff Dan Coverley said the cause will have to await an autopsy, but that it appeared to be a heart attack.
There was a good turnout for Art & Wine on the Green and the Heritage Park Gardens Plant Sale in Gardnerville on Saturday. Work was proceeding on the planting beds at the gardens.
Update: The Zephyr Cove branch of the Douglas County Public Library closed Friday for health concerns after a mouse nest was found. The library is closed on Mondays , but it might remain closed for Tuesday's Summer Reading Kickoff.
Genoa resident Alan Ferguson said the thermometer at his place north of town hit 97 degrees around 5 p.m. on Friday. Minden set a new record high temperature for June 1 with, you guessed it, 97 degrees.
Today we’re looking at partly sunny skies and a high temperature of 86 degrees, which is pretty much where we’re going to be hanging around for the rest of the work week.
