It’s God’s planet

Editor:

This is God’s planet Earth.

Do you believe in Jesus’ name. God is going to let the United States of America get away with killing infants?

Do you support the Constitution?

Editor:

It is a simple question.

Do you stand for our Constitution?

Our Bill of Rights?

Our democracy?

And all that follows with that stand.

There is no “maybe.”

No “sort of.” No “some, but not all.”

It is yes or no.

Not paid protesters

Editor:

So, Joe Lombardo, you think hat the 5051 demonstrations are stupid and nothing but paid people to protest. You are wrong. Your constituents, that I am one of, are using our 1st Amendment Rights to resist Trump’s cruel and ill thought out policies and you.  All of MAGA Republicans worship Trump to the point they cannot think on their own. I know a lot of good, independent thinking, wonderful Republicans, but you are not one of them.

I was taught growing up to stand for and with those who are marginalized and suffer and treated like animals because they are different. I was taught if you don’t speak out against cruel and unfair treatment then you condone it. Apparently you were not taught the same. Do you condone the treatment of those being disappeared by ICE with no due process? Do you support our neighbor Canadians, who have done nothing but traveling through the US, to be picked up and detained in jail for days or weeks in Louisiana? Do you condone trump’s deporting the Marylander who was not a citizen but here legally with a court order preventing him from being deported. Deporting him by administrative error and defying a Supreme Court order to bring him back to the US?

My next question is are you a true Christian or a Republican MAGA Christian for they are not the same?  Those again that stand up for those less fortunate the us, that stand against imprisonment of innocent good people for no other reason then they are working at jobs supporting their families, feeding the hungry, correcting our mistakes, and I could go on and quote more biblical teachings are true Christians. Those that say they are Christian but continue to support the trump policies that have done nothing but strip people of their jobs, healthcare, security in their homes, programs that assist them so the wealthy can have tax breaks, try to erase their history, shipping innocent men to prisons in El Salvador, are not.

Oh you ran to be a politician and be in front of people and represent all constituents no matter their political party, not just MAGA Republicans, and take the criticism from all and consider their ideas. You don’t deserve to be Governor.

Unite to save our country

Editor:

We need to unite to save our country.  The call to “resist” has gone out to many and many have come out.  At protests and rallies we see many of the same signs: “Keep your hands off our bodies,” “Support Palestinians,” “Trans bans suck,” “Seniors to save Medicare,” “Farmers Need Markets,” “Vaccines Save Lives,” “Support a Rainbow of Colors.” Largely these are progressive causes.

How do these activists of many causes appear to those who may have supported Trump in the last election?

And what individuals might be rethinking how the “promises” of the current administration seem to be playing out?   These might be people whose 401K’s are plunging; who are having trouble accessing Social Security or wondering if it may be there when they need it; business owners concerned about obtaining parts or products and then having a predictable market;  recently terminated Federal workers, 30 percent of whom are veterans.  The list keeps growing as more and more citizens are impacted by changes that reduce government services or impose new demands on their thinking.

My specific areas of interest are science and education.  The last issue of Science, (4/4/25), official publication of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, had articles on the killing of NIH grants, a 50 percent decrease in NSF grants, how international scientists are rethinking attending US conferences; and an editorial describing how research cuts are, “…provoking scientists in the US to seek opportunities in other countries”.    Government agencies are being dismantled that have helped the US lead the world in science for decades.

It would be well for those promoting specific issues be less strident in their demands and to unite with others in efforts to preserve our democracy and the constitution.  The is the best approach to regaining the checks and balances essential to keeping the path open toward respect for all citizens.
