Genoa, Nev. — No one was injured in a Thursday afternoon structure fire at 1244 Canyon Drive in Topaz Ranch Estates. The fire was reported at 1:23 p.m. by a neighbor. East Fork Deputy Chief Michael Shockey said it was an exterior fire that extended into the attic space of a mobile home. The Red Cross was called for two adults displaced by the fire.
CalTrans indicates that Highway 395 is closed from 0.6 mi north of the north junction of 120 to the junction of State Route 167 due to a brush fire. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.
The Washoe Tribe is suing the federal government seeking an accounting of the Federal Indian Boarding School Program that included Stewart Indian School. The lawsuit was filed Thursday in Pennsylvania and includes the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes.

Tahoe-Douglas Elks will be placing flags at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden 8:30 a.m. today, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be raising the large flags at 9 a.m., I’m told. A Memorial Day service is 10 a.m. Monday at the Genoa Cemetery.
It just might be the first fully mild weekend in a while, with highs ranging from 77 degrees today and climbing to 82 degrees on Sunday before cooling off a bit for Memorial Day.
