Upcoming plant sales

Spring has sprung in the Carson Valley, and gardeners can get their groove on at two local plant sales scheduled for May 18.

Heritage Park Garden’s annual Plant Faire takes place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at HPG, 1461 Ezell Street in Gardnerville. Organizers said the sale provides an opportunity to get locally grown starter plants for the growing season. Plants are offered for donation, and Master Gardeners form the local area will be on hand to answer questions.

Attendees are encouraged to bring any old or unwanted pots to participate in the planting pot swap, and various garden goodies will be available for purchase. All proceeds benefit HPG, a project of Main Street Gardnerville (mainstreetgardnerville.org) made possible though donations and the efforts of a committed team of volunteers.

Also on May 18, gardening enthusiasts can join UNR Master Gardeners of Douglas County (extension.unr.edu/program.aspx?ID=267) for a Native Plant Sale at River Fork Ranch, 381 Genoa Lane.

This sale is also scheduled from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and features a selection of more than 30 native plants sourced from the Washoe State Tree Nursery, which “produces plant materials native or adapted to the Great Basin and Sierra Nevada (forestry.nv.gov/washoe-state-tree-nursery).

A complete listing of available plants can be found at nevada.app.box.com/s/mqi3lbmvsroblbqzeo7zduhatlilr1km. Cost per plant ranges from $12-$14, and proceeds benefit the UNR Extension Master Gardener program. Cash, check and charge will be accepted.
