Genoa, Nev. — This time last year, Nate Leising retired as a volunteer firefighter after 30 years, but he’s not done with the fire sevices, after he filed for a seat on the East Fork Fire Protection District Board on Tuesday. According to govotedouglas.com no local races developed on Tuesday.


The Secretary of State’s Office reported Lyon County residents Dayton Republican Ken Gray and Silver City Democrat Erich Obermayr filed for Assembly District 39.


Genoans are exploring a Nevada historic preservation grant to fix up the Town Hall at their meeting 5:30 p.m. today. Work on September’s 50th Candy Dance festival is also underway. The town meets in the aforementioned town hall, built by the Raycrafts in 1886.


A design review and special use permit for the new Douglas County Courthouse goes to the Minden Town Board at their 5:30 p.m. meeting in the CVIC Hall, which was built in 1912, while we’re talking about building ages.


Gardnerville Town Board members recommended zoning and tentative maps for a big slice of the Virginia Ranch project on Tuesday. The town also heard from Rep. Mark Amodei’s office that work on Industrial Way may be funded from the transportation bill.


Funding $5.5 million of the county's section of Muller Lane Parkway goes to the Regional Transportation Commission 2 p.m. today at the Douglas County Courthouse in Minden. 


Alpine County voted for supervisors and other offices on Tuesday and the race for Supervisor District 3 was an unofficial win for Alpine Supervisor Irwin Jim by one vote over challenger Stacey L. James. Only 21 people cast a ballot in the race. David Griffith and Evan Mecak were the only candidates in their races.


Five cross-country skiers are leaving Placerville this morning to follow in the path of “Mailman of the Sierra” Snowshoe Thompson through the Sierra. They are supposed to arrive in Genoa on Sunday.


The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with the high temperature climbing to 49 degrees, and the wind picking up out of the west at 5 mph this afternoon.
