For some reason I thought I’d be talking about what’s open this morning, but nope. Word is that Washoe Valley is a mess this morning, with Interstate 580 closed and folks spinning out all over the place.


I took a tour of Minden around lunchtime on Sunday and the roads were clear and seemed to be drying out. Really the only issue was Genoa Lane just below town where wind had blown snow across the road.


Temperatures at Highway 395 and Airport Road have been bumping right around freezing since around 2:30 a.m. That means we could be dealing with icy conditions on this morning’s commute, so take it easy on the roads.


Heavenly Mountain Resort reported 68 inches from the storm, with 38 inches of that falling in 24 hours over Saturday. A spot near the base of Kingsbury recorded 18 inches from the storm, while Tahoe Douglas firefighters reported 2 feet near Daggett Summit.


The storm contributed mightily to the snowpack, with snow telemetry sites across the Carson River basin indicating up to or above the median for the first time this winter.


School was already scheduled to be out today and Tuesday for teacher professional development days, but a variety of state offices delayed opening until 10 a.m. due to slick roads.


There might be some blowing snow before 9 a.m. today, mainly around the fields. Otherwise, the forecast calls for partly sunny skies with a high of 42 degrees, with the wind out of the west at 5-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
