Genoa, Nev. — Topaz Ranch Estates resident Kaitlyn Insell posted her letter of resignation from the general improvement district board on Monday. Insell was one of the new trustees elected in 2022, and who walked into the winter maelstrom on Jan. 1, 2023.

The Vacation Home Rental Advisory Board meets 1 p.m. today in the Kahle Community Center Rubicon Room where they will select officers and discuss goals for the year.

Douglas County is seeking an applicant to the Airport Advisory Board to represent commercial interests on the actual airport, rather than the at-large business community. Applications are due 5 p.m. Feb. 5. There was some confusion about that at the last commission meeting.

The Second Wednesday Book Club called on Jan. 10 on account of weather is 5-6:30 p.m. today at the Minden Branch of the Douglas County Public Library. "All That She Carried," by Tiya Miles is the book. Sponsored by the Friends of the Douglas County Public Library.

Chain controls are in effect on Highway 88 from Pickett’s Junction to Kirkwood this morning, but roads closer to home were clear at 6:30 a.m. National Weather Service radar shows most of the storm so far north of Carson Valley.

Whatever’s coming today was still on the other side of the Sierra Nevada before dawn this morning. It appears we’ll be rain-shadowed on this one, too, with only a trace of rain forecast for Minden.

The forecast shows rain this morning with mostly cloudy skies and a high temperature of 50 degrees. The wind is expected to shift from southeast to west at 5-10 mph this afternoon.
