Carson Valley Photo Club welcomed the new year by electing new officers.

Our board members are President Tom Monti, Vice President Andi Parsons, Secretary Robin Rowe and Treasurer Wendy Whyman.

“We are expecting to have a bang up year,” spokeswoman Nancy Hulsey said. “Our club was founded in March 2008. Not many people were photographers at that time, so it was definitely a learning experience.”

Digital photography was just becoming popular, and photographers were learning as quickly as possible with the advancements.

“A 3-megapixel, 18-55 mm was a big deal back in the day,” Hulsey said. “We needed a club to teach people how to use the new equipment. Adobe Photoshop was in its infancy. Lightroom hadn’t even been thought about. No one knew how to enhance a photograph with lighting and color.”

Photographer Kim Steed talked about framing and was also the photo contest judge for the Jan. 9 meeting.

The contest is for members only.

“Every month we can submit up to three photos in a pre-chosen theme. This months theme was Holiday Decorations,” said Hulsey.

First place was awarded to Wendy Whyman with a photograph she called “Festive Firetruck”. Second place was Tom Monti and his photograph he called “Minden Park.” Third place winner Sandra Silva’s photo was called “Classic Cartoon Christmas.”

The club meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Our meeting begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. Each meeting includes a 30-40 minute. Dues are $36 per year for a single member.
