Eastside Memorial Park Managing Funeral Director Nadia Sandoval spoke on Wreaths Across America program at the Jan. 11 Minden Rotary meeting.

Eastside Memorial is located at 1600 Buckeye Road — keep going almost to the end of the road — on 27 acres of which six acres are currently developed. They are a full service funeral service where your loved ones never leave the Carson Valley. Eastside recently added a Pet Cemetery to honor your loving pet.

Wreaths Across America is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2007 to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun in 1992.

Wreaths’ yearlong mission is to remember the fallen, honor those that serve, and teach the next generation the value of freedom.

Since 2008, Congress proclaims a Saturday in December as National Wreaths Across America Day.

The 2023 WAA ceremony was held on Dec. 16, 2023. With the help of volunteers 400-plus wreaths were placed honoring service members laid to rest at Eastside.

This year, it will be held on Dec. 14.

Sandoval announced that the Vietnam Moving Wall will be here over Memorial Day weekend. The Wall is one-half the size of the DC Memorial.

The Wall will start at Carson Valley Inn and then move through town to Eastside Memorial Park on May 23.

This is a daunting undertaking and Sandoval has asked for volunteers, in various capacities, to make the memorial memorable and successful.

Once the Wall is at Eastside, volunteers are needed to locate names, escort people to the proper location, rovers to answer questions-provide direction, security, as the Wall will be accessible 24/7 and there will be parking attendants.

If you would like to volunteer call Sandoval at (775) 782-2215.
