Former county commissioner seeks seat on audit committee

Three-term County Commissioner and former Planning Commission Chairwoman Nancy McDermid is seeking a seat on the Audit Committee, replacing Martha Scheuermann.

McDermid became the first woman to term limit out on the commission when her term ended in 2018.

She is vying with retired engineering manager and previous audit committee member Kirby Mays. Six-year Minden resident Allison Baumann is the third applicant for the audit committee. Bauman is director of compensation, benefits and human resources information systems for a mortgage company.

Douglas County commissioners are scheduled Thursday to make appointments to the airport committee, Planning Commission, Audit Committee, Advisory Board to Manage wildlife and the Senior Services and Public Transit Advisory Board.

Four people applied for planning commission, including retired public works director Dan St. John, who managed the Incline Village General Improvement District for seven years, and 43-year Gardnerville Realtor Jim Valentine. Also seeking a position on the planning commission is retired business owner and 13-year-Gardnerville resident Clinton Holeman and Carson Valley Quilt Guild President Laurie Lile, a nine-year Foothill resident and former Monrovia city manager. The term expires at the end of 2027.

The seat on the wildlife advisory board formerly held by JT Chevallier attracted five applicants.

Topaz Ranch Estates resident Gerrit Buma, Gardnerville resident Colin Burrows, Gardnerville Ranchos resident Ethan Gray, Gardnerville Ranchos resident Virginia Nisse and Foothill resident Tim Glenner are seeking a seat on the panel that expires at the end of the year.

Former Bently Nevada Corp. Executive Vice President and General Manager Robert Chapman is one of two people seeking the business representative seat on the Airport Advisory Committee. Chapman has lived in the county for just over half a century. Also seeking the business position on the airport board is 11-year Gardnerville resident Tim Gardner. Gardner owns Tegridy Aviation and said he has been flying out of Minden-Tahoe Airport since 1988.

Four-year Clear Creek resident Kathy Savitt has withdrawn her application for the seat, according to Airport Advisory Committee President Al Browne. The president of Boom Supersonic was the chief marketing and media officer at Yahoo and served as vice president at Amazon, where her brother is chief executive officer Andy Jassy.

Johnson Lane resident Andrea Rajeski is the only applicant for the Senior Services and Public Transit Advisory Board. She has been a member of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club for the entire 18 years she’s lived in Douglas County and has served as club president.
