Genoa, Nev. — It’s going to be a busy Tuesday, with the Douglas County School Board discussing the selection of a new trustee and outlining the process for hiring a superintendent. Trustees meet 4 p.m. in the Douglas High School media room.


Planning commissioners are at long last tackling an 85-unit subdivision on 37 acres on the east side of the Gardnerville Ranchos. They are also hearing the first subdivision map for 324 lots on Park Ranch Holdings land off Buckeye east of Minden. Planning commissioners meet 1 p.m. today at the Douglas County Courthouse.


Nevada Policy President John Tsarpalas is the speaker at the Good Governance Group noon today at the COD Casino in Minden. Admission, $5, includes beverage.


A judge threw out the case against two men accused of starting the Caldor Fire in Placerville just before New Year’s. I’ve reached out to their attorney. While the fire never burned a square inch in Douglas County it prompted the first mandatory evacuation in the county’s history.


A wind advisory for Minden is in effect through 4 a.m. Wednesday, when a winter weather advisory begins. We could see southwest winds of 20-30 mph, gusting up to 60 mph along the Highway 395-88 corridor.


The only road controls in effect are on Interstate 580 through Washoe Valley where vehicles over 9 feet tall are prohibited, according to nvroads.com.


Expect mostly cloudy skies clearing as the day progresses with a slight chance of rain or snow 7-10 a.m. today with a snow level of 5,100 feet rising to 6,000 feet.  The wind will pick up to 20-25 mph this afternoon with gusts of up to 45 mph for most of the Valley.
