Genoa, Nev. — It was a busy New Year’s Eve both in Stateline and in Carson Valley from my monitoring of the scanner. There was at least one foot chase as a result of a fight, deputies served a search warrant that resulted in an arrest and cows got out near Muller Lane and Foothill Road, causing a collision.

The night started out with a pedestrian struck by a vehicle around 5:40 p.m. Sunday at Highway 50 and Lake Parkway. The pedestrian was conscious and breathing but lying in the road when rescuers arrived. She was taken to Barton Hospital for treatment.

That’s just what I was able to glean from listening. We’ll get a better report from the Sheriff’s Office fairly soon. While not as quiet as Christmas weekend, the rest of the weekend seemed fairly mild from my vantage point, which almost guarantees something huge happened.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue responded to two dirt bikers near Bald Mountain in the Pine Nuts over the weekend. One of the bikes broke down and the other biker tried to get back to the truck and was lost in the fog. They were both found safe by 11 p.m.

There were more than 38 citizen scientists participating in the Christmas Bird Count, according to organizer Ben Sonnenberg. The prize for Sunday was a red-breasted sapsucker among the thousands of birds in scores of species spotted on Sunday.

The earthquake swarm in north Reno saw a 1.4 magnitude temblor spill into Walker south of Gardnerville around 2 a.m. I counted more than 40 quakes up near UNR and the Desert Research Institute over the weekend.

Just a reminder that The R-C is closed today, along with most everywhere else. I’ll be working on and off on Wednesday’s edition, which clears early Tuesday morning, so you can contact me at the email below.

This New Year’s Eve was a stark contrast to the weather chaos that took place last year. The one front we had ended up bouncing off the Sierra Nevada on Saturday, leaving us pretty dry.

The sun will allegedly come out today with the high temperature forecast to hit 46 degrees as a new front arrives on Tuesday and Wednesday. There’s allegedly snow in the mix, but we’ll see.
